PREVIEW: Kohli has looked out of answers to the challenges being thrown at him and that’s had a cascading impact on RCB’s performance. However, it’ll be harsh to say Kohli’s lack of runs is the only reason for RCB’s wobbly run. His early dismissals have meant RCB’s designated spin hitter – Glenn Maxwell – has had to battle against pacers in the powerplay and that resulted in a couple of low scores. The allrounder so far has gone 8*, 26, 55, 23, 12 and 0. Meanwhile, barring the 88 against Punjab Kings and the 96 against Lucknow Super Giants, Faf du Plessis too has struggled for consistency with his other scores reading 5, 16, 8, 8, 5 and 23.

RCB have had a shocker as a batting unit in the last two matches – 68 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and 115 against Rajasthan Royals – and will fall behind if they don’t start stringing wins. The onus is on the batters to lift the campaign and ensure it isn’t too late.

Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, have had a sensational run. Their bowling unit looks strong and the batters – who were supposed to be the weak links – have made it a habit of pulling the team through tough situations and nailing the wins. At the top of the table, GT have plenty of breathing space but the crucial aspect for their campaign will be to sustain the momentum and seal a top-two finish. Given how things are going for GT, it’s unlikely RCB will have it easy against the latest entrants.

The afternoon game should force the captain to bat first with dew not a consideration. The last two afternoon matches at the venue have been won by the teams batting first.

Gujarat Titans News: Mohammed Shami has picked the most number of wickets in the powerplay this season while Kohli has survived the first six overs only once in six innings so far. Shami has dismissed Kohli four times in the IPL in 46 balls and has given just 62 runs. The former RCB captain averages just 15.50 against the pacer and GT will look to exploit that matchup. Another tough afternoon in store for Kohli?

Royal Challengers Bangalore News: The batting positions that average the most this season for RCB are No. 6 and No. 7. Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed have done their jobs but the stat also reflects how poorly the RCB top order has performed. The four of Kohli, Anuj Rawat, Suyash Prabhudessai and Rajat Patidar have a combined aggregate of 340 runs in 23 innings among them at 14.78 and an SR of 113.33. GT have picked the most wickets in the powerplay this season and RCB surely cannot afford another poor start. The fate of the game will depend on how the RCB batters handle the GT pacers.
